Prison Inmate Bertrum Burkett Dies
FORT MADISON – Bertrum Rene Burkett was pronounced dead due to natural causes at 7:23 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 in a hospice room of the Iowa State Penitentiary. Burkett was 66 years old at the time of his death.
Burkett had been serving a life sentence for the crime of Murder 1st Degree and Willful Injury from Polk County. His sentence began on May 30, 1979.
