Why register with the Department of Corrections (DOC)?

Per Iowa Code Chapter 915, victims of crime have the right to receive the following notifications from the Iowa Department of Corrections:

Notified
路 Pending releases and discharges from DOC custody or supervision
路 Escorted visits and furloughs from one of our institutions
路 Escape from custody

路 Death of an incarcerated individual

路 Other unusual changes to an incarcerated person's status

In order to receive these notifications, you need to register.

To register, please contact the County Attorney鈥檚 Office where the crime was prosecuted and request registration. The County Attorney is the official "registrar" of all victim registrations and is responsible to ensure your registration is forwarded to the DOC.

Please call the IDOC Victim Services office at 1-800-778-1182 for information about your registration status.

VICTIMS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS WITH UPDATED ADDRESS, PHONE, EMAIL, and OTHER CONTACT INFORMATION.

In addition to registering with the Iowa DOC, you may also want to register with Iowa VINE. This is an anonymous and automated system available to anyone interested in receiving automated notifications of an offender's movement in the system.

If you have registered with VINE (Victim Information and notification Everyday), this does NOT mean you are registered with the Department of Corrections or the Board of Parole. Please contact your County Attorney鈥檚 Office to see if you are eligible to become a registered victim with the DOC.
